The Kuki Students’ Organisation – Sadar Hills (KSO-SH) has issued an urgent advisory calling on Kuki individuals to evacuate the Senapati District, avoid travel to the area for any purpose, and halt further educational pursuits there. The advisory follows allegations that the Senapati District Students’ Association (SDSA) failed to honor an agreement brokered on November 21, 2024, between the Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTu) and the Naga Peoples’ Organization (NPO).
According to KSO-SH, SDSA volunteers have been detaining Kuki travelers at Mao Gate since December 23, 2024, preventing them from returning home for Christmas and New Year celebrations. Despite repeated appeals for free passage, the detentions have reportedly continued. The advisory, aimed at safeguarding the Kuki community, will remain effective until a peaceful resolution is reached between the Nagas of Senapati District and the Kukis of Kangpokpi (Sadar Hills) District.
The tensions escalated following a December 22 incident at the Gamgiphai Check Post, where SDSA officials were allegedly assaulted. In response, the Senapati Action Committee (SAC) issued an ultimatum, urging the Kuki community to avoid residing or traveling to Senapati District immediately.
