Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with IRCON International Limited for the maintenance of electrification infrastructure, including Overhead Equipment (OHE) and Power Supply Installation (PSI). This is the first such initiative by Indian Railways, aimed at enhancing the reliability and efficiency of electric traction systems in the region.
The MoU was signed on Thursday by Chetan Kumar Shrivastava, General Manager of NFR, and HM Gupta, Chief Managing Director of IRCON. The collaboration will focus on maintaining electrification works in the Lumding and Tinsukia divisions, where electrification is progressing at a rapid pace.
Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of NFR, mentioned that most sections in these divisions have already been electrified, with the remaining 425 Route Kilometers (RKM) expected to be completed by June 2025. As the electrification expands, the demand for skilled personnel to manage and maintain the infrastructure has increased, prompting NFR to engage IRCON for a two-year contract.
This partnership will not only improve the maintenance of electrification systems but also provide NFR with access to IRCON’s expertise and advanced technologies, contributing to the long-term sustainability of the region’s rail network.
