Renowned Assamese Filmmaker Bhaskar Jyoti Das Dies At 51 After Cancer Struggle

Guwahati, Dec 27: Bhaskar Jyoti Das, the esteemed Assamese filmmaker and scriptwriter, passed away on Thursday at the age of 51 after a prolonged battle with cancer. He died at a hospital in Guwahati, according to close friends.

Das was a key figure in Assamese cinema, known for his work as a writer on award-winning films such as Haanduk, Sonar Baran Pakhi, and Bokul Phulor Dore. He also co-directed and produced the feature film Antardhan and directed notable documentaries like An Unknown Summer, Where Is My Home, and I Don’t Want to Be Born Again for Poem.

In addition to his filmmaking accomplishments, Das contributed to the regional film industry as a jury member for the 2nd Guwahati International Film Festival and the 2nd North East Film and Video Technicians Association (NEFVTA). At the time of his death, he was working on the post-production of a new feature film.

His passing has sparked an outpouring of tributes from the Assamese film community, with many expressing their heartfelt condolences to his family.
