Guwahati, Dec 28: Over 500 leaders and workers from various political parties, including Congress, Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP), and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), officially joined the Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Friday at a ceremony in Guwahati. The event was attended by TMC Member of Parliament Sushmita Dev and State TMC president Ramen Borthakur.
Sushmita Dev highlighted that many grassroots leaders were feeling sidelined in their former parties, leading them to shift allegiance to TMC, which focuses on grassroots-level politics. “Around 17-18 community leaders from Congress, AGP, AJP, Raijor Dal, and BJP joined us, as they were neglected in their previous parties,” she said.
Dev also expressed confidence that regional parties like TMC have a better chance of defeating the BJP in Assam. “In a direct fight between BJP and Congress, BJP often wins. However, when regional parties like TMC, DMK, or Samajwadi contest, BJP loses,” she added, urging the people of Assam to consider regional alternatives for a stronger political future.
