Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh has strongly condemned what he described as “indiscriminate firing by Kuki militants” on two villages in Imphal East district on Friday. The incident left a policeman and another individual injured, according to police reports.
The firing reportedly originated from the hills and targeted the villages of Sanasabi and Thamnapokpi. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the chief minister denounced the attack, calling it a “cowardly and unprovoked” assault on innocent lives.
“Strongly condemn the indiscriminate firing by Kuki militants at Sanasabi and Thamnapokpi in Imphal East, which injured civilians and security personnel. This cowardly and unprovoked attack on innocent lives is an assault on peace and harmony,” Mr. Singh wrote.
He urged central forces and state police to ensure proper coordination in such situations. “Adequate security personnel have been rushed to the affected areas. The injured are receiving necessary medical assistance, and the government calls for calm and unity in the face of such challenges,” the chief minister added.
