Agartala, December 28, 2024: The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has announced the restoration of regular train numbers for all its passenger trains, effective January 2025. This move, in line with the Railway Board’s directive, will mark a return to pre-COVID operational norms. The change will eliminate the existing ‘0’ prefix in train numbers, reinstating the original numbering system for better clarity and convenience for passengers.

Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of NFR, Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, stated in a press communiqué on Saturday, “The decision reflects our commitment to streamline passenger services and return to normalcy post-pandemic. All 60 pairs of passenger trains owned by NFR will operate with their original numbers and frequencies from January next year.”

Out of the 60 pairs of passenger trains, operations will be divided across NFR’s divisions as follows- Tinsukia Division: 4 pairs, including Train No. 55909/55910 (Simaluguri Jn. – Dibrugarh – Simaluguri Jn.) and Train No. 75904/75905 (Makum Jn. – Dangari – Makum Jn.). Lumding Division: 19 pairs, such as Train No. 55603/55604 (Guwahati – Mairabari – Guwahati) and Train No. 55687/55688 (Dullabcherra – Silchar – Dullabcherra). Rangiya Division: 10 pairs, including Train No. 55619/55620 (Mendipathar – Guwahati – Mendipathar) and Train No. 55821/55822 (Rangiya – Dekargaon – Rangiya). Alipurduar Division: 6 pairs, featuring Train No. 55421/55422 (Malda Town – Balurghat – Malda Town) and Train No. 55465/55466 (Alipurduar Jn. – Bamanhat – Alipurduar Jn.). Katihar Division: 21 pairs, such as Train No. 55727/55728 (Katihar – Radhikapur – Katihar) and Train No. 75743/75744 (Katihar – Siliguri Jn. – Katihar).

NFR has urged passengers to verify the updated train schedules, including timings and stoppages, through the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) website or NFR’s official social media platforms before planning their journeys.

“This initiative is part of our broader strategy to enhance passenger convenience and ensure seamless travel experiences,” Sharma added.

With the resumption of regular train numbers, NFR aims to facilitate better travel planning and ensure operational consistency, benefitting thousands of passengers across its network.
