Guwahati, Jan 2: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced that the new bridge connecting Guwahati and North Guwahati will be named “Kumar Bhaskar Varma Setu” in honor of the 7th-century Kamrupa King Kumar Bhaskar Varma. The name is a tribute to the king’s remarkable contributions to the region’s cultural and political development.
In his statement, Chief Minister Sarma described the decision as a fitting homage to King Kumar Bhaskar Varma, whose legacy continues to shape the history of Assam.
The bridge, slated for completion by July 2025, will help alleviate traffic congestion and enhance connectivity between the two cities. It will be toll-free for all vehicles, except trucks and commercial buses.
Sarma also reassured that the construction of the bridge is progressing smoothly, with plans for its public inauguration upon completion.
