Aizawl, Jan 2: A historic moment for India was recorded in Aizawl on January 1, 2025, with the birth of the country’s first “Gen Beta” baby. The baby boy, born at 12:03 AM at the Government Civil Hospital, signifies the start of the new generation, referred to as “Gen Beta,” encompassing children born after 2025.

The first birth of the year was followed by another baby boy, delivered at 12:35 AM at the Presbyterian Synod Hospital, located in the Durtlang area on the outskirts of the city.

In the span from 3 PM on December 31 to 7 AM on January 1, Aizawl hospitals reported the birth of 36 babies. However, the celebrations were tempered by sadness, as five deaths were recorded during the same period. The Civil Hospital also treated 11 individuals for injuries sustained in vehicle accidents, including four with broken bones.

On New Year’s Eve, local police made 21 arrests across four police stations. Of those arrested, 12 were detained for drunkenness, including one for driving under the influence. Meanwhile, six police stations in the state reported no arrests during the night.
