Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday confirmed that talks are currently being held with the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) regarding the implementation of the Justice (Retd) Biplab Sarma committee’s recommendations on Clause 6 of the Assam Accord. The discussions aim to protect the interests of the state’s indigenous population.
Sarma highlighted that while some debatable issues, such as the cadastral survey of land in riverine (‘Char’) areas, are still under consideration, the state government is committed to implementing most of the committee’s recommendations by April.
The Chief Minister also noted the improved relationship between various communities in Assam and expressed confidence that most issues would be resolved amicably.
