Agartala, January 04, 2025: The Commerce and Industry Ministry’s LEADS 2024 report, unveiled on Friday, has ranked Tripura and four other northeastern states—Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, and Sikkim—as “fast movers” in its logistics index. This recognition highlights the region’s growing efficiency in logistical services, a crucial factor for boosting exports and economic growth.
Assam and Arunachal Pradesh also received notable rankings, finding a place among the 13 states and Union Territories categorized as “achievers.” The achievers list also includes Delhi, marking a consistent trend from 2023 when the same number of states and UTs were featured in this category.
Meanwhile, states like West Bengal and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands have been placed in the “aspirers” category, indicating room for improvement in logistics performance.
The LEADS (Logistics Ease Across Different States) report evaluates states based on four key pillars: Logistics Infrastructure, Logistics Services, Operating and Regulatory Environment, and the newly introduced Sustainable Logistics. Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal emphasized the report’s role in driving focus on enhancing logistics efficiency across states to reduce transaction costs and improve trade.
“The index empowers states and UTs by offering region-specific insights, enabling informed decision-making and fostering comprehensive growth,” Goyal stated.
Launched in 2018, LEADS draws inspiration from the World Bank’s Logistics Performance Index (LPI) but goes a step further by combining perception-based surveys with objective assessments. This dual approach ensures a more robust and comprehensive evaluation of logistical performance.
The report highlights the importance of sustainable and efficient logistics as a cornerstone for India’s economic development and global competitiveness.
