Guwahati, January 08: In a historic ceremony at Gorsam Chorten, Jemithang, near the Indo-Tibet border in Arunachal Pradesh’s Tawang district, a 73-foot-high mast National Flag was unfurled, symbolizing national pride and unity. The event, held in the serene Jemithang Valley close to the India-Tibet and India-Bhutan borders, was attended by over 200 locals and Indian Army personnel, marking a momentous occasion in the region.

The ceremony was jointly organized by the Indian Army, civil administration, and monks of the Chorten, showcasing collaborative efforts towards fostering national pride in border areas. Brigadier Vipul Singh Rajput, Commander of the Tawang Brigade, presided over the function. The event also saw the participation of Lek Norbu, Zila Parishad member, Deewan Mara, Circle Officer of Jemithang, Gaon Budhas, enthusiastic schoolchildren, and other local dignitaries.

The National Flag was raised with full military honors by Indian Army soldiers, accompanied by the National Anthem and thunderous Jaikaraas echoing across the valley. Brigadier Singh emphasized, “This initiative is not just a symbol of patriotism but also a step towards enhancing the beauty and tourist potential of the border region.”

The high mast flag, soaring at 73 feet, is the second such installation in the Tawang sector within a year. The first was installed at the strategic Bum La Pass in January of the previous year. Executed by the Tezpur-based Gajraj Corps and the Ball of Fire Division, the project was supported by the Flag Foundation of India.

This initiative aligns with the broader national vision of Border Area Development, aiming to foster a sense of belonging among border communities while boosting tourism. The flag stands as a monumental insignia of pride, adding to the grandeur of Gorsam Chorten and the surrounding landscape.

With plans for more such high mast flags in Tawang and beyond, the project highlights the Indian Army’s commitment to integrating national pride with regional development.
