A fierce gunfight is underway between security forces and militants in Longvi village, located about 8 km from Jairampur town in Changlang district, Arunachal Pradesh. The exchange of fire began late Wednesday night when militants ambushed security personnel, including jawans from the Indian Army and Assam Rifles. Security forces are currently retaliating to the unprovoked attack.
As of now, no casualties have been reported. Sources confirmed that the firefight has been ongoing since the initial assault.
This confrontation follows a significant security operation in late December, during which forces thwarted an attempt to smuggle Chinese-made weapons into Arunachal Pradesh. On December 29, a joint operation by the Indian Army, Assam Rifles, and local police in the Namdapha Reserve Forest led to the recovery of several assault rifles marked “Made in China.” These weapons were believed to have been buried by the Eastern Nagaland National Government (ENNG) prior to their surrender last year. Intelligence reports indicated that insurgent groups, including NSCM (IM) and NSCN(KYA), were attempting to retrieve the cache with the help of ENNG cadres.
