Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan participated in the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) for the North Eastern Hill Region in Umiam, Ri-Bhoi district, Meghalaya, on Thursday.
During his address, Chouhan highlighted the Indian government’s focus on agricultural development in the North East. He assured that the government would continue to support agricultural research, particularly in fruits, vegetables, and crops, while ensuring fair prices for farmers, increasing production, and reducing costs.
The Minister also emphasized the role of bamboo in improving the livelihoods of farmers in the region. He discussed its growing importance in industries like food, furniture, and construction, and reiterated the government’s commitment to unlocking its full economic potential.
Chouhan further praised the respect for women in the North East and spoke out against gender inequality in other parts of the country. He mentioned the Ladli Laxmi Yojana in Madhya Pradesh, a program aimed at empowering girls and ensuring their future success.
The event marked ICAR’s 50 years of agricultural research and development in the North East, celebrating its contributions to the region’s growth and prosperity.
