Guwahati, Jan 10: Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Thursday appealed to the people of Assam to support Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘One Nation, One Election,’ stressing that simultaneous elections would ensure uninterrupted governance and promote continuous development.

At an official event where over 50,000 houses were distributed, Chouhan expressed concern over the frequent elections across the country, which he said disrupt ongoing government initiatives. He pointed out that elections are held continuously, whether in different states or following Lok Sabha polls, hindering long-term developmental work.

“The Prime Minister has proposed holding simultaneous elections for Lok Sabha and state assemblies to ensure that governance remains uninterrupted for five years, and resources are used efficiently,” Chouhan stated. He urged the people of Assam to support this vision for the country’s better future.

During the event, Chouhan also inaugurated 50,000 houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Gramin (PMAY-G), a project worth Rs 650 crore, aimed at enhancing living conditions for marginalized communities in Assam. He praised Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for the state’s progress and announced additional housing projects, including 3.88 lakh houses for the current and next financial years.

Additionally, agricultural equipment such as power tillers, weeders, and pump sets were distributed to thousands of farmers, aimed at improving agricultural productivity and empowering rural livelihoods through schemes like the National Food Security Mission (NFSM) and Mission Organic Value Chain Development for North East Region (MOVCD-NER).
