Agartala, January 13, 2025: The picturesque town of Tirthamukh, nestled among towering hills in Gomati District is celebrating the annual “Poush Sankranti Mela,” also known as Tirth Mukh Mela on January 13-14, 2025. Situated near the Indo-Bangladesh border, the event has drawn the attention of the Border Security Force (BSF), which is prioritizing security due to the area’s proximity to the border.

Anil Sharma, the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the BSF Sector Headquarters in Udaipur has instructed the BSF Battalion under his command to implement all necessary precautionary measures to ensure the smooth conduct of the festival and to prevent any interference from miscreants across the border.

The BSF is working in close coordination with the district administrations of Dhalai and Gomati to prepare for the event. Several initiatives have been taken to bolster security, including the deployment of additional troops along the border to prevent infiltration. Joint patrols involving the Tripura State Rifles (TSR) and Tripura Police are being carried out to ensure a multi-layered security approach.

Security measures also include riverine surveillance in the Gomati River and Dumbur Lake to prevent unauthorized movement, as well as increased border surveillance through the use of Night Vision Devices, drones, and CCTV at strategic locations near Tirthamukh. To further enhance safety, the BSF has engaged local stakeholders, including the Taxi Operator and Boat Associations, to facilitate the smooth movement of pilgrims along the Indo-Bangladesh Border Road (IBBR).

In addition, interceptor teams on motorbikes are patrolling the border road, closely monitoring and regulating the movement of civil vehicles. Mobile check posts have been set up to ensure security and deter any antisocial activities. The identity of travelers is being verified through random vehicle checks.

On the auspicious occasion of Poush Sankranti, the Border Security Force extends its heartfelt greetings to all pilgrims, ensuring a peaceful and secure celebration.
