Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi announced that synergised efforts by security forces and proactive government initiatives have brought the situation in Manipur under control. Addressing the Annual Press Conference at the Manekshaw Centre, he provided insights into the security dynamics in the Northeast and northern borders.
General Dwivedi stated that the situation in Manipur has significantly improved due to coordinated actions between security forces and the government. “The overall scenario in the Northeast is gradually improving. In Manipur, combined efforts have stabilized the region, although sporadic incidents of violence persist,” he noted. He stressed the importance of ongoing efforts to ensure lasting peace.
Highlighting the role of community outreach, the Army Chief emphasized the collaboration of NGOs, military veterans, and local leaders in fostering reconciliation and peace in affected communities.
Regarding the Indo-Myanmar border, General Dwivedi revealed enhanced surveillance and security measures to mitigate any spillover effects from turbulence in Myanmar. “We have reinforced surveillance mechanisms to insulate the region from unrest across the border,” he said.
Additionally, the Army Chief discussed disaster preparedness, announcing a Rs 17 crore allocation to upgrade Quick Reaction Teams (QRTs) and Quick Reaction Medical Teams for enhanced disaster response capabilities.
