A drone equipped with explosives dropped two bombs near the 5 Manipur Rifles (MR) camp under Lamsang police station in Imphal West district on Tuesday night, sparking security concerns in the region.
The incident occurred at approximately 9:30 pm, with one bomb detonating near the camp’s bunker and the other exploding at Langeibung Bridge, close to the security post. Fortunately, no casualties were reported.
Upon receiving an alert, personnel from Imphal West district police and Lamsang police station promptly rushed to the scene. However, the drone had already fled the area, evading interception.
A team of Manipur police experts later conducted a detailed examination of the site. They recovered bomb fragments, shrapnel, and components of a hanging mechanism, which were taken into police custody for forensic analysis. Authorities have registered a case and launched an investigation into the incident.
In a separate case, villagers of Itham Moirangpurel discovered a suspected mortar shell embedded in the soil at the Bongyang Hill Range under the jurisdiction of Maphou Police Station in Kangpokpi District today at around 1:50 pm.
