Agartala, January 15, 2025: Shija Hospitals & Research Institute Pvt. Ltd., in collaboration with the Manipur State AIDS Control Society (MACS), inaugurated a state-of-the-art Anti-Retroviral Therapy (ART) Center at its premises on Wednesday. This significant step aims to enhance the accessibility and quality of care for people living with HIV/AIDS (PLHIV) in Manipur, a region grappling with a high prevalence of HIV cases.
The event witnessed the presence of prominent dignitaries. Haobam Rosita (IAS), Project Director of MACS, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, while Dr. M. Kulachandra Singh, Senior Physician at Shija Hospitals, served as the Guest of Honour. The ceremony was presided over by Dr. Palin Khundongbam, Chairman and Managing Director of Shija Hospitals & Research Institute Pvt. Ltd.
“This partnership symbolizes a shared commitment to fight HIV/AIDS and provide life-saving treatments to those in need,” said Smt. Rosita during her keynote address. She emphasized the role of collaborative efforts in combating the HIV epidemic in the state.
Dr. Palin Khundongbam highlighted the hospital’s dedication to healthcare excellence. “At Shija, we believe in providing holistic care. The ART Center is a testament to our commitment to improving the lives of PLHIV by offering not just treatment but also hope,” he stated.
The event also featured a heartfelt account from Deepak Langpoklakpam, a person living with HIV, who shared his recovery journey. “Accessible treatment and support have given me a second chance at life. I hope this center helps many others like me,” he said, drawing applause from the audience.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Shija Academy of Health Sciences and MACS, reinforcing the partnership’s objectives. The new ART Center will operate under the guidelines of India’s National AIDS Control Program, which has been providing free ART since 2004.
“ART is not just a treatment; it is a lifeline for those affected by HIV,” remarked Dr. M. Kulachandra Singh, urging greater awareness and utilization of such facilities.
The ART Center at Shija Hospitals is set to play a pivotal role in suppressing the viral load of HIV patients and preventing the progression to AIDS, thereby improving their quality of life.
