Mizoram Police, in coordination with a sister Intelligence Agency, has successfully seized a substantial cache of arms and ammunition from the outskirts of Saithah village in West Phaileng Police Station jurisdiction, Mamit District. This operation is one of the largest arms recoveries in the state, underscoring the authorities’ continued efforts to combat illegal arms trafficking.
The items recovered during the operation include: 6 AK-47 rifles, 10,050 AK-47 ammunition cartridges, and 13 magazines
Five individuals have been arrested in connection with the seizure, including a senior leader of the Chin National Front (CNF), a Myanmar-based insurgent group. The arrest of this high-ranking individual marks a significant achievement in Mizoram’s counter-insurgency efforts.
Investigations suggest that the seized weapons were intended for trade between the CNF and the United People’s Democratic Front (UPDF-P), a militant group active in Bangladesh’s Chittagong Hill Tracts. This operation highlights the transnational nature of illegal arms smuggling and the ongoing security threats to the region.
A case has been filed at West Phaileng Police Station, and further investigations are ongoing to dismantle the arms trafficking network.
