Agartala, January 16, 2025: The Border Security Force (BSF) apprehended two Bangladeshi minors and an Indian tout for alleged infiltration in the Srimantapur Sahapur area under Sonamura police station. The arrests were made earlier on Thursday.
The detained minors have been identified as Shanta Islam (15), daughter of Abdullah Sarkar from Kamranga Char and Sanjita Akhtar (19). The Indian tout Rajikul, a resident of Durgapur village under Sonamura police station, was also taken into custody for his alleged role in facilitating their illegal entry. “The accused were promptly handed over to the Sonamura police station for further investigation,” stated a BSF official.
Meanwhile, in a separate operation last night, Sonamura police, acting on a tip-off, arrested two Indian touts and a Bangladeshi national from the Kamalnagar Ghatigar area. The individuals were presented before the court today. Authorities have not yet disclosed their identities but confirmed their involvement in cross-border activities.
The incidents have reignited concerns about the efficacy of border security. “It is alarming that, despite the presence of robust security measures, individuals manage to cross the border. This raises critical questions about the effectiveness of surveillance and the possibility of larger networks operating in the region,” said a senior security analyst.
Local residents have expressed fears about the potential implications of such breaches. “If minors and touts can infiltrate, what’s stopping militants or other threats from doing the same?” questioned a concerned citizen.
Authorities have assured the public of stringent action and enhanced vigilance along the border. “We are committed to addressing these challenges and ensuring the safety of our citizens,” emphasized a police official.
