Agartala, January 16, 2025: In a significant step to alleviate traffic congestion in Agartala, the state government has announced the construction of a second flyover connecting Radhanagar bus stand to IGM Hospital Chowmuhani. Soil testing has already commenced at Colonel Chowmuhani, marking the beginning of this ambitious infrastructure project.
The state government has formed an 11-member committee to oversee the project, ensuring its timely and efficient completion. Officials have confirmed that the flyover is part of a broader initiative to improve urban mobility in the capital city.
Speaking on the need for better infrastructure, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha emphasized the government’s commitment to addressing traffic woes. “Earlier in October 2024, we proposed the construction of three new flyover bridges in critical areas: BK Road, Swami Vivekananda Maidan to Ujjayanta Palace, and Motor Stand to Melarmath. A presentation has been prepared, and after Durga Puja, we will hold another round of discussions to finalize the plans,” he stated.
Residents of Agartala have long faced challenges due to increasing vehicular traffic, particularly during peak hours. The proposed flyover is expected to significantly ease congestion, especially in the bustling areas around Radhanagar and IGM Hospital Chowmuhani.
Soil testing, a critical initial phase of construction, is being conducted meticulously at Colonel Chowmuhani on Thursday. Experts have highlighted the importance of this process in determining the feasibility and structural requirements of the flyover.
The government’s proactive approach to urban development has been widely appreciated. “This project reflects the administration’s dedication to modernizing the city while addressing public concerns,” said an official from the Urban Development Department.
