Agartala, January 17, 2025: Tripura’s Scheduled Caste (SC) Welfare Minister Sudhangshu Das paid a heartfelt tribute to the literary luminary during the 111th birth anniversary celebrations of Advaita Mallavarman emphasizing the enduring impact of his work on society. The celebrations took place at the Mukta Mancha of Ramthakur College in Agartala city on Friday included a state-level seminar titled “Advaita Mallavarman’s Samaj Bhavna”.

Reflecting on the nature of life and death, Minister Das remarked, “Birth and death are eternal events in human life. If we are born, we will die. None of us will remain forever, as per the laws of nature. However, what makes life meaningful is the work we leave behind. Some are remembered not for their birth, but for their contributions to society.”

Minister Das elaborated on Mallavarman’s journey, highlighting his humble beginnings in Brahmanbaria, Bangladesh, then part of undivided India. “Born in a village once dismissed as ‘Gabar Para,’ meaning a place of the uneducated, Advaita Mallavarman rose above societal prejudices and hardships. Deprived of parental love and the comforts of childhood, he engaged in a lifelong struggle to establish himself. His achievements in such adverse circumstances are a testament to his indomitable spirit,” he said.

The minister underscored the essence of Mallavarman’s legacy, adding, “People on this side of the border remember him today, not because of his birthplace, but because of his unparalleled work. He transformed adversity into opportunity, becoming an enduring symbol of resilience and creativity.”

The celebrations commenced with a tribute at Melaghar’s Dashamighat on January 2, followed by district and state-level seminars honoring Mallavarman’s contributions. Friday’s event saw participation from MLA Mina Rani Sarkar, Tripura Cultural Advisory Committee’s Vice-Chairman Subrata Chakraborty, Deputy Mayor Manika Das Datta, and RTC Principal Papri Das, among others.

Mallavarman, best known for his novel “Titash Ekti Nadir Naam,” continues to inspire generations. The seminar served as a platform to discuss his thoughts on society and the transformative power of his literary work.
