President Murmu, PM Modi Extend Statehood Day Greetings To Meghalaya, Tripura, And Manipur

President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended their heartfelt greetings to the people of Meghalaya, Tripura, and Manipur on the occasion of their Statehood Day, commemorating the 53rd anniversary of their attainment of full statehood on January 21, 1972.

In her message, President Murmu praised the significant contributions of the people from these states to the country’s development. “Greetings to the residents of Meghalaya, Tripura, and Manipur on Statehood Day! The enterprising people of these states have made remarkable contributions to the development of the country. I convey my best wishes to the residents of these states for a peaceful and prosperous future,” she wrote.

Prime Minister Modi also shared his well-wishes, highlighting the states’ potential for growth and their contributions to India’s progress. “On Meghalaya’s Statehood Day, I convey my best wishes to the people of the state. Meghalaya is admired for its natural beauty and the industrious nature of the people. Praying for the continuous development of the state,” he said. For Manipur, PM Modi remarked, “We are incredibly proud of the role played by the people of Manipur towards India’s development. My best wishes for the progress of Manipur.” Regarding Tripura, he noted, “Best wishes to the people of Tripura on their Statehood Day. The state is making noteworthy contributions to national progress and is known for its rich culture and heritage.”

Meghalaya, formerly part of Assam, attained full statehood in 1972 after gaining autonomy in 1969. Meanwhile, Manipur and Tripura, once princely states, merged with India in 1949 and were made Union Territories in 1956 before achieving full statehood in 1972.
