Agartala, January 23, 2025: Aiming to boost innovation and entrepreneurship, the Tripura government is set to launch the Tripura Startup Policy-2024 on January 24. Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha will officially unveil the policy during a function at Pragya Bhavan, Agartala. The announcement was made by Information and Technology Minister Pranajit Singh Roy during a press conference held at the Secretariat in Agartala city on Wednesday.
Highlighting the state’s previous efforts, the minister stated, “The Tripura IT/ITES Startup Policy-2019 was launched to foster a conducive environment for IT-based startups and to encourage innovation. Over the years, 26 IT-based startups have been registered under this policy, with incentives exceeding Rs 1 crore, creating approximately 130 jobs.”
The Tripura Startup Policy-2024 aims to build on this foundation, expanding its scope to support both IT and non-IT startups. According to Minister Roy, 127 startups from Tripura are currently registered with the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Government of India, of which 26 are recognized under the IT/ITES Startup Scheme. The new policy will address the needs of the remaining 101 startups and incentivize new ones.
The Tripura Startup Policy-2024 will provide monthly operating expense support of Rs 20,000 per month for startups. Women-led startups will receive an additional 10% boost, while those led by specially-abled individuals will get an extra 20%. The policy will also offer financial assistance for raw materials, equipment purchases, patenting, and marketing. Additionally, it will emphasize fostering startups in sectors such as handlooms, handicrafts, horticulture, agro-processing, and health services.
The state government has earmarked Rs 50 crore to implement this policy. Roy remarked, “This initiative is not just about startups; it’s about creating opportunities for the youth of Tripura. We aim to launch 200 startups annually under this policy.”
The policy is designed to inspire young talents to establish startups across various sectors, contributing to economic growth and job creation. Speaking on the government’s vision, the Finance Minister noted, “Our goal is to empower the youth with the resources and support they need to transform their ideas into reality.”
The press conference was attended by Kiran Gitte, Secretary of the Department of Information and Technology, and Jeya Ragul Geshan B., adding credibility to the announcement.
The launch of the Tripura Startup Policy-2024 marks a significant milestone in the state’s journey towards becoming a hub for innovation and entrepreneurship.
