Agartala, January 23, 2025: In Tripura’s Udaipur sub-division, a woman allegedly absconded with her paramour, taking with her a substantial sum of money earned through organ donations made by her and her husband. The couple, identified as Gopal Chandra Das and Shilpi Das, had donated one kidney each at a Kolkata-based super-specialty hospital in exchange for ₹13 lakh.
The incident came to light when Gopal Chandra Das, a pump operator, lodged a complaint at the Radha Kishorepur Women Police Station on Tuesday night. Speaking to the media, Das shared that he and his wife had been married for 14 years and were raising her son from a previous marriage.
Das alleged that his wife had convinced him to donate one of his kidneys, promising to use the money to build a two-storied house. “She wanted to live in a permanent house and persuaded me to donate my kidney for money. She did the same, and we received ₹13 lakh in total,” he said. However, three days ago, Shilpi disappeared along with the money they had kept at home.
The husband claimed that his wife’s behavior had changed in recent months, as she spent long hours on her mobile phone and often hid her conversations. “I had no idea she was planning this. She broke all her promises and vanished with the money,” Das stated.
Confirming the complaint, an officer from the Radha Kishorepur Women Police Station said, “A missing diary has been lodged, and an investigation is underway. The husband has also alleged that his wife was involved in an extramarital affair.”
The case is under investigation, and authorities are working to trace Shilpi Das and recover the missing cash.
