Vantara, a renowned wildlife rescue center, is set to provide shelter to 20 elephants recently rescued from the exploitative logging industry in Arunachal Pradesh. This rescue, authorized by a High-Powered Committee under the Tripura High Court and supervised by the Supreme Court, marks a significant advancement in the effort to protect these majestic animals.
The rescued elephants, which include 10 males, 8 females, 1 sub-adult, and 1 calf, had been subjected to years of forced labor and abuse in the logging sector. Among the most notable cases are Laxmi, a 10-year-old sub-adult elephant with untreated wounds, and Maya, a 2-year-old calf, rescued alongside her mother Rongmoti, both victims of the grueling work conditions.
The elephants will now be given a chance to live in a safe and compassionate environment at Vantara’s sanctuary, where they will receive the care and attention they deserve.
