Assam: Guwahati Police Rescue Gecko Lizard, Arrest One In Beharbari

Guwahati, Jan 24: In a significant wildlife rescue operation, the Guwahati police successfully rescued a gecko lizard during a raid in Seuj Nagar, Beharbari, on Friday, January 24. Officers from the Basistha Police Station arrested 18-year-old Kaju Ray and seized a mobile phone and a scooter (registration number AS01 FA42281) from the scene.

The police announced the details of the operation on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “An EGPD team from Basistha PS rescued one gecko lizard after a raid at Seuj Nagar in Beharbari. One Kaju Ray (18) was apprehended, mobile phone & scooty (AS01 FA42281) seized. Legal action initiated.”

This operation comes on the heels of a recent wildlife crime crackdown in Assam. On January 21, forest officials and the Wildlife Crime Control Bureau (WCCB) recovered pangolin skin, leopard skin, and sambar deer antlers in a joint operation in Tinsukia.
