Agartala, January 24, 2025: In a joint operation by the Sabroom police and Border Security Force (BSF), five Bangladeshi nationals, including two young children, were arrested for allegedly attempting to infiltrate India by crossing the barbed wire fence in the remote tribal area of Magrum ADC Village. A specific case has been registered against the accused.
The incident highlights the persistent issue of Bangladeshi infiltration into Tripura, despite stringent surveillance measures by border security forces. Infiltration through brokers, who facilitate illegal crossings by breaching the barbed wire fence, has reportedly become a recurring challenge in the region.
Sabroom Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Nityanand Sarkar stated, “Acting on a tip-off, we received credible information that a group of Bangladeshis was planning to cross the border into the Magrum ADC Village area. Based on this intelligence, we launched a joint operation with the BSF to apprehend the infiltrators.”
The operation led to the arrest of five individuals from the same family. The arrested persons have been identified as Sanatan Mishra De (35), Tanni De (25), Narayani De (57), and two minor daughters aged three-and-a-half years and two-and-a-half years. All hail from Rangamati district in Bangladesh.
“We are committed to safeguarding the integrity of our borders and preventing unauthorized entries,” Sarkar emphasized. “This arrest is a testament to the coordination between the local police and the BSF in tackling such incidents.”
The arrested individuals were brought to Sabroom Police Station for further questioning. Officials are investigating the circumstances surrounding their infiltration and whether local brokers facilitated their illegal entry.
