Agartala, January 24, 2025: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) is set to host a three-day state conference from January 29 in front of Umakanta Academy in Agartala city, aiming to draw a massive public gathering.
Announcing the event at a press conference on Friday, Leader of the Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury expressed confidence in the conference’s success and outlined its objectives.
“We are hopeful of witnessing a significant turnout as this conference holds great importance for our party and the state,” said Chowdhury. He added that the event would critically evaluate the political developments of the past three years and assess the party’s efforts to address them. “This will be a platform to analyze how effectively the CPI(M) has been able to tackle the prevailing political challenges and involve people from different regions in our movement,” he explained.
Chaudhury emphasized that the conference would focus on identifying both the successes and shortcomings of the party’s strategies over the years. The program will also include a public rally scheduled on January 29 at the same venue.
The event will see participation from party members across the state, including representatives from regional and sub-division committees. Senior CPI(M) Politburo members, including Brinda Karat, Ashok Dhawle, and party coordinator Prakash Karat, will travel from Delhi to attend the conference, Chaudhury confirmed.
Highlighting the challenges in organizing the event, he revealed that the original plan was to hold the conference at Swami Vivekananda Maidan. However, the Sports Council informed the party of a prior booking at the venue. Subsequently, the party considered hosting it in front of Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan but decided against it due to potential traffic disruptions.
“Eventually, we approached the Chief Minister to seek permission to hold the conference in front of Umakanta Academy. He responded positively, and we are making all preparations with his assurance in mind,” Chaudhury said.
With the final arrangements underway, the CPI(M) is gearing up for what they hope will be a milestone event in shaping the party’s political agenda.
