A 50-year-old man, identified as Oinam Ranjan Singh from Imphal, Manipur, died on Sunday after allegedly jumping from a flyover leading to the departure area of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport.

According to airport sources, Ranjan Singh had arrived in Kolkata from Imphal on January 23 and had been spotted at the airport premises over the past few days. He was reportedly scheduled to return home on Sunday.

The incident occurred at 3:23 pm when Ranjan Singh fell from the flyover onto the airport’s city-side arrival area. A spokesperson for the Airports Authority of India (AAI) confirmed the timing of the tragic event.

Ranjan Singh, critically injured in the fall, was immediately attended to by a doctor on duty at the airport and rushed to a state-run hospital in Barasat by personnel from the NSCBI Police Station. However, he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

“The injured man was promptly transported in an ambulance, but unfortunately, he could not be saved,” said Dhanamjaya Rao, Acting Director of Kolkata Airport.

Authorities are investigating the incident, but the motive behind Ranjan Singh’s fatal leap remains unclear.
