Agartala, January 27, 2025: Former Chief Minister and CPI(M) Politburo member Manik Sarkar has reaffirmed that the upcoming 24th state conference of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) will proceed as planned on January 29, despite the government’s refusal to provide a venue. Sarkar made this statement while addressing journalists today after visiting senior Left leader Sunil Debnath at his residence in the Kanchanmala area of the Golaghati assembly constituency.
“Even if no ground is provided, the rally will happen because the people are with us,” Sarkar stated emphatically.
During his visit, Sarkar expressed concern for Sunil Debnath, a respected figure in the Left movement who has been bedridden due to prolonged illness. “Sunil Debnath has always stood by the people, irrespective of political affiliations. His honesty and popularity have earned him the love of many. It is unfortunate that his health now confines him to his home,” Sarkar remarked.
Reflecting on past political developments, Sarkar accused the BJP of deceiving voters in the 2018 assembly elections with false promises. “The CPI(M) had forewarned people about recognizing their real friends and enemies. Within a year and a half of BJP’s rule, the people began to see through their facade,” he said.
He also criticized Tipra Motha’s role in the 2023 assembly elections, alleging it facilitated the BJP’s victory. “The people are now aware of the empty promises made by both the BJP and its allies. This is why the government is trying to obstruct our rally. But such tactics cannot suppress the people’s voice,” he asserted.
Sarkar concluded with a warning to voters: “Do not fall into their trap of temptations in the next elections. Recognize who truly stands by you.”
The CPI(M) rally on January 29 is anticipated to be a major political event, highlighting the party’s resilience amid government roadblocks.
