Agartala, January 28, 2025: In a strong push for the holistic development of Jampui Hill in Unakoti district, the Mizo Convention has submitted comprehensive charters of demands to the Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha and Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Monday. These demands emphasize sustainable development, tourism infrastructure and the socio-economic upliftment of local communities.
Addressing the Tourism Minister, the Mizo Convention proposed several eco-friendly tourism initiatives. “A skywalk near Eden Lodge and a trekking route adjacent to it can turn Jampui Hill into a sought-after destination,” said Dr. Zâiremthiama Pachuau, General Secretary of the Mizo Convention. Additionally, they suggested the creation of an eco-park in collaboration with the Forest Department to rejuvenate neglected areas like Vaisam and Hmawngchuan villages.
Another focal point of the proposals is the upgrading of the Tlaksih paragliding site, which, according to the convention, could transform the area into an adventure tourism hub. “We aim for development that benefits the community economically while preserving the environment,” emphasized J.D. Mawia, President of the Mizo Convention.
Meanwhile, the memorandum to CM Dr. Saha highlighted broader developmental needs, including the Jampui Hill Greater Water Supply Project and the upgradation of Jampui PHC to a Community Health Center. The memorandum also advocated for a local Degree College, a youth sports cell, and an agricultural link road encircling the hill range. “These initiatives are not just about infrastructure but about creating opportunities and empowering our youth and farmers,” remarked Mawia.
The community also voiced concerns about the ongoing legal case involving local leaders of the Jampui Hill Farmers Union. “We seek justice for our leaders who stood for public interest against arecanut smuggling,” urged Dr. Pachuau.
Both leaders expressed optimism that their demands would be addressed, ensuring Jampui Hill’s development aligns with the aspirations of its people. “We believe in collaborative efforts with the government to create a sustainable and inclusive future,” they concluded.
