Agartala, January 28, 2025: Tripura’s Leader of Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury has accused the ruling BJP government of staging the destruction of CPI(M) propaganda materials in various parts of the Agartala city.
Speaking to media persons here in Agartala on Tuesday, Chaudhury expressed his outrage and questioned the BJP’s motives. “Despite being in power, why is the BJP so afraid? They are obstructing CPI(M) public meetings and resorting to such undemocratic tactics,” he alleged.
Chaudhury further appealed to the police to act impartially, urging them not to align with the BJP. “The police must remember their duty is to serve the people, not to wear the BJP’s colors,” he remarked, emphasizing the importance of neutrality in law enforcement.
The allegations come amidst heightened political tensions ahead of the 24th state conference of the CPI(M), scheduled for January 29. After prolonged deliberations, the conference is set to take place in front of Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan here. Chowdhury criticized the government for rejecting their initial application to hold the event at Umakanta Academy ground, citing disruptions to students’ studies. “It’s ironic,” he said, “because there have been numerous instances, including the Home Minister’s public meeting, where programs were held at the same venue, disrupting academic activities.”
He accused the BJP of fearing the growing support for CPI(M). “They want to silence the voice of the people, but it is impossible to keep them locked up. The public meeting in front of Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan here in Agartala city will go ahead as planned,” he asserted.
Chaudhury also pointed out that campaign equipment was vandalized even near his residence. “This shows their desperation. The BJP’s fear is evident,” he said. Calling for fair play, he reiterated his appeal to the police to maintain impartiality and ensure a peaceful political environment.
The CPI(M) state conference is expected to be a significant event in Tripura’s political calendar, with leaders and party members from across the state coming together to strategize for the future.
