Agartala, Jan 30: Assam Rifles, in coordination with Tripura Police, successfully seized and destroyed illegal marijuana plantations valued at Rs 6 crore in a joint operation conducted in the Sepahijala district of Tripura on Wednesday. The authorities confiscated ganja worth Rs 5.35 crore and destroyed 15,000 marijuana saplings, estimated to be worth Rs 60 lakh, at Batadhala.
The operation, executed based on reliable intelligence, targeted illicit drug cultivation networks in the region, which is located near the India-Bangladesh border. The confiscated drugs have been handed over to the police for further legal action, while the marijuana plants were destroyed on-site to prevent any further exploitation.
This operation highlights the continued efforts of Assam Rifles to combat drug trafficking and maintain law and order. Police officials are now on the lookout for the individuals responsible for cultivating the illegal marijuana. The ongoing problem of illicit marijuana and poppy cultivation, along with drug smuggling from Myanmar, remains a challenge for authorities in the northeastern states.
