Manipur: Security Forces Arrest 8 Militants In Major Crackdown

In a major crackdown on militant activities, Manipur Police and security forces arrested multiple insurgents linked to different proscribed groups across the state.

Manipur Police on Wednesday (January 29) arrested two active members of the RPF/PLA involved in extorting money from shops in and around Paona Bazar. The arrested individuals have been identified as Nepram Bothe Meitei (24) and Yengkhom Gyandas Singh @ Dinku @ Chaningkhomba (24).

Recovered item from their possession include one .32 pistol with a magazine loaded with seven rounds of 7.65mm ammunition, two mobile phones, one wallet containing Rs. 6,210, one Aadhaar card and one two-wheeler

In a separate operation on the same day, security forces arrested two active members of PREPAK(PRO) from Tentha under Khongjom Police Station, Thoubal District. The arrested individuals are identified as Leishangthem Hemanta Singh @ Leishemba (41) and Kiyam Open Meitei @ Penthokpa (41).

On January 28, Central Forces arrested three KYKL cadres and one UNLF-K cadre in the general area between BP-85 and BP-86, Tengnoupal District. The arrested militants were later handed over to Tengnoupal Police Station.

The arrested individuals are identified as Rishikanta Laishram @ Malemnganba (32) – KYKL, Poireiton Leitanthem @ Tokio (26) – KYKL, Naorem Yohenba Singh @ Nongyai (26) – KYKL and Kh. Malemnganba Meitei @ Phoungakpa (27) – UNLF-K. Seized items include one Khukri, two mobile phones, one power bank, four liquor bottles, two debit cards, one Aadhaar card, one voter ID, one PAN card.

The successful operations highlight the continued efforts of Manipur Police and security forces in curbing insurgency and ensuring law and order in the state.
