Agartala, February 1, 2025: Reacting to the Union Budget 2025-26, Shri Biplab Kumar Deb, Member of Parliament (Tripura West) and former Chief Minister of Tripura, termed it as an inclusive, visionary, and development-oriented financial plan that will accelerate the progress of all sections of society, particularly the middle and lower-income groups.

“This budget is a true reflection of the aspirations of the common people. It lays out a realistic roadmap for empowering the poor, youth, farmers, and women while strengthening India’s position in the global economy,” said Deb. He lauded the government’s efforts in making taxation more citizen-friendly, including the proposed tax exemption on an annual income of ₹12 lakh, simplification of the tax structure, and relief measures for senior citizens on Tax Deducted at Source (TDS).

Highlighting the pro-business and pro-growth measures, Deb praised the 100% foreign investment in the insurance sector and special incentives for women entrepreneurs, stating that “these steps will enhance financial independence and social participation of women, paving the way for a stronger economy.”

The budget has also allocated substantial funds for tourism development, including the redevelopment of 50 major tourist centers. Deb emphasized that this initiative will “not only boost employment but also elevate India as a global tourism hub.”

In the healthcare sector, Deb appreciated the complete removal of duty on 36 cancer drugs, calling it a “revolutionary step that will significantly reduce medical expenses for cancer patients.” He also welcomed the target of expanding medical education with 10,000 additional seats in medical colleges this year and 75,000 seats over the next five years.

On the agricultural front, he lauded the increase in the loan limit on Kisan Credit Cards from ₹3 lakh to ₹5 lakh, and schemes aimed at benefitting 1.7 crore farmers under the ‘Dhan Dhanya Yojana’ across 100 districts. He stated that “self-reliance in pulse cultivation within six years, an ambitious push for edible oil production, and a special initiative for butter cultivation will directly benefit millions of farmers.”

Deb also acknowledged the budget’s focus on industrial growth, including increased micro-credit facilities for MSMEs, expansion of small-scale exports, and the establishment of a new fertilizer plant in Assam and three additional centers in the eastern region. He added, “The additional economic opportunities provided through the Startup Fund will empower young entrepreneurs and innovators.”

Discussing India’s commitment to green energy and digital innovation, Deb welcomed the removal of duty on 35 lithium-ion battery components and the target of constructing 120 new airports, which he said “will revolutionize connectivity and the transportation sector.”

“India is among the fastest-growing economies in the world today. Our robust economic track record, structural reforms, and development strategies over the last decade have gained global recognition,” he remarked, expressing his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for presenting a budget that ensures holistic growth.”

Deb concluded by reiterating his confidence that the budget “will turn the vision of a developed, self-reliant India into reality and uplift every section of society towards prosperity.”
