Former Chief Minister and Leader of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) Okram Ibobi, has urged Manipur Governor AK Bhalla to advise Chief Minister N. Biren Singh against intimidating members of the state assembly.

A delegation of Opposition Congress MLAs, led by Ibobi, met the Governor today to express concerns over the Chief Minister’s recent remarks at Thambal Sanglen during the 75th Constitution Day observance. The Chief Minister had reportedly warned that any MLA moving a no-confidence motion in the upcoming assembly session would face serious consequences from the public.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, Ibobi condemned the statement, calling it an act of intimidation against legislators. He emphasized that moving a no-confidence motion is a fundamental democratic right of the opposition and should be exercised freely.

The Manipur Assembly session is scheduled for February 10, with a Business Advisory Committee (BAC) meeting set for 2 PM today. Ibobi further criticized the Chief Minister’s remarks as unconstitutional and inappropriate for the leader of the House. The Congress delegation urged the Governor to ensure that MLAs’ democratic rights are upheld and not undermined.
