Manipur: Suspected Extortionist With Militant Links Detained In Bishnupur Police Operation

Acting on intelligence inputs regarding extortion activities in the Ningthoukhong area, a combined team of Bishnupur District Police conducted a search operation early this morning.

The operation, which began at 6:30 AM and concluded at 7:30 AM, was carried out under the leadership of DSP CDO-I Bishnupur and OC/CDO Bishnupur, along with a team from Bishnupur Police Station (BPR-PS) led by its Officer-in-Charge. Personnel from C-Coy 8th Battalion CRPF also participated in the raid under the supervision of Additional SP (Ops) Bishnupur and overall guidance of SP Bishnupur.

During the search in Ningthoukhong Wards No. 1 and 13, a suspect identified as Pukhrambam Prem Singh alias Hopson (47), son of P. Birchandra Singh of Ningthoukhong Ward No. 13, was detained from his residence. Upon interrogation, he admitted to having joined the proscribed group RPF/PLA in 1998 and undergoing six months of Basic Military Training in Myanmar.

He further confessed to extorting money from the general public and government officials in Nambol, Bishnupur, and Ningthoukhong areas, amassing a total of ₹1,20,000 in September 2024.

Among items, authorities seized include three mobile phone, ₹320 in cash, one wallet, one driving license, one UCO Bank debit card and one Airtel Payment Bank card.

All formalities were observed, and the suspect, along with the seized items, was handed over to Bishnupur Police Station for further legal action.
