Manipur Police on Tuesday arrested four active militants from different underground groups involved in extortion activities across the state.
Two members of the KCP(PWG) group, Ningthoujam Jupiter Singh (27) and Sorokhaibam Amarjit Singh (28), were apprehended from Mahabali under Porompat Police Station, Imphal East. They were engaged in extorting money from government officials, shopkeepers, and the general public in Greater Imphal. A loaded M20 pistol with five live rounds was recovered from their possession.
In a separate operation, police arrested Lourembam Mani Singh (46), an active cadre of the UNLF group, from Takyel Kolom Leikai under Lamphel Police Station, Imphal West. He was involved in extorting money from various government offices in Imphal.
Additionally, police arrested a PLA cadre, Pukhrambam Prem Singh (47), from Ningthoukhong, Bishnupur District. He was responsible for extorting large sums from government officials, businessmen, and the public in Nambol, Bishnupur, and Ningthoukhong. Authorities recovered three mobile phones, a wallet, and identification documents, including PAN and Aadhaar cards, from his possession.
The police continue their crackdown on extortion activities linked to militant outfits in Manipur.
