Meghalaya is ramping up efforts to enhance its collaboration with Japan, focusing on economic and educational advancements, Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma announced on Friday. Speaking at the 5th India-Japan Conclave in Guwahati, Sangma stressed the state’s commitment to strengthening ties with Japan, in alignment with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to bolster bilateral relations for mutual prosperity.
Sangma highlighted discussions with Japan’s Ambassador to India, Ono Keiichi, aimed at addressing Japan’s healthcare workforce gap. As part of this initiative, Meghalaya is offering training opportunities for its youth, particularly in nursing, with plans to train up to 3,000 nurses in the coming years.
In addition to healthcare, Meghalaya is also exploring agricultural collaborations. The state has partnered with Yats Corporation Company Ltd, a Japanese firm, to promote Shiitake mushroom cultivation, further solidifying its economic engagement with Japan.
