Manipur Police Arrest 13 Militants In Three Days, Seize Weapons

In a series of counter-insurgency operations, Manipur Police arrested 13 militants belonging to different proscribed outfits over the last three days.

Security forces on Friday conducted an area domination and patrolling operation south of Old Khaukual village under Sangaikot Police Station, Churachandpur district. The operation led to the arrest of seven suspected cadres of the Kuki National Army (KNA). The arrested individuals were identified as Seikhogin Haokip alias Gigin (37), Ngamlenmang Mate alias Mangneo (25), Seikhomang Haokip alias Seimang (25), Thanglelmang Haokip alias Mangboi (27), Jamkhosei Haokip alias Seipu (32), Lhunkholal Khongsai alias Lalboi (34), and Mangkhangthang Kipgen alias Mamang (35).

Security forces recovered a significant cache of arms and ammunition during the operation, including two AK-47 rifles, one 7.62 assault rifle, three single-bore rifles, 10 AK-47 magazines, 654 rounds of 7.62 mm live ammunition, and 19 single-bore cartridges.

On Saturday, Manipur Police arrested four active members of the proscribed Kangleipak Communist Party (PWG) from Huikap Village, Imphal East, near an oil pump under Andro Police Station. The arrested individuals, including two women, were allegedly involved in extortion and arms transportation. They were identified as Chaphamayum Sunder Singh alias Suresh (39), Nongthombam Boinao Meitei alias Lanjadaba (48), Leichongbam Ibesana Devi alias Pangthungnganbi (26), and Maibam Tony Chanu alias Chingkheinganbi (23).

During the operation, police seized two 9mm pistols with two magazines, ten 9mm live rounds, one .32 caliber live round, and several incriminating documents and booklets.

In a separate operation, Bishnupur District Police arrested an active member of the banned PREPAK (PRO) outfit. The militant, identified as Yumlembam Arunkumar Singh alias Chingkhei (36), was apprehended from Okshongbung Maning Leikai under Moirang Police Station. He was allegedly involved in extortion and other unlawful activities.

Additionally, on Saturday, security forces arrested Wangmayum Muktajuddin alias Amuba (25), an active cadre of the banned KCP(PWG), from Khabeisoi Maning Leikai, Imphal East. He was reportedly involved in extorting money from the public, private firms, and government officials.

Investigations are ongoing in all cases.
