Dimapur, Feb 28: The Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) has reiterated its commitment to protecting the rights and history of the Naga people while advocating for an inclusive and peaceful political settlement. The party adopted several resolutions during its fifth general convention in Kohima on Thursday.
The NDPP highlighted key milestones in the Naga political movement, including the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation of 1873, the Naga representation to the Simon Commission in 1929, the plebiscite of 1951, the Framework Agreement of 2015, and the Agreed Position of 2017. The party stated that these historical events reaffirm the unique political identity and aspirations of the Naga people.
Urging collective efforts, the NDPP called on all stakeholders to work together to ensure broader national and global recognition of the Naga cause. At a crucial stage in the Indo-Naga political process, the party appealed to Naga national political groups to align with public aspirations and strive for a unified approach toward a negotiated settlement.
The NDPP also urged the Government of India and all negotiating parties to expedite a final resolution that is “honourable, acceptable, and inclusive of all stakeholders” while upholding the historical and political rights of the Naga people.
The party emphasized that a comprehensive settlement is essential for lasting peace and the overall development of Nagaland and the Naga people.
