Itanagar, Mar 3: Sonam Zomba from Arunachal Pradesh secured her first international victory at Matrix Fight Night (MFN) 16, defeating Singapore’s Shi Yin Tan by technical knockout (TKO) in the second round of the straw-weight category. The event took place at Siri Fort Stadium in New Delhi on Saturday.
Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu congratulated Zomba on her victory, praising her dedication and perseverance. “Your dedication, strength, and skill in the ring are truly inspiring. Wishing you continued success in your MMA journey—may you achieve even greater heights in the future!” he wrote on X.
Zomba expressed gratitude to her coach, family, and supporters, stating, “I am proud that I made it in my first international fight.” She also acknowledged CM Khandu’s support, saying, “It’s really good to know that you have the CM behind you.”
Hailing from Jang village in Arunachal Pradesh’s Tawang district, Zomba is a professional straw-weight MMA fighter affiliated with Bidang MMA Fitness in Guwahati, Assam. She previously won in the 13th edition of MFN in Noida in 2023 by knockout. In 2022, she won two gold medals in MMA and striking MMA at events organized by the All India MMA Federation in Delhi.
