In a significant development, a total of 20 different types of weapons, along with various ammunition and other miscellaneous items, were voluntarily surrendered by the public across multiple locations in Manipur. The surrender took place in Imphal East, Bishnupur, Jiribam, and Imphal West districts.
At the office of the SDPO, Porompat, Imphal East, the following items were surrendered two 9mm pistols with four live rounds, two anti-riot guns, one Enfield .303 rifle, one stun shell, one tear gas shell
In Bishnupur District, at the 10 Batallion, BSF, Loktak Project, Bishnupur, and later handed over to Loktak Police Station two single-barrel breech-loaded (SBBL) 12-bore guns, one modified .303 rifle, three No. 36 HE grenades, one igniter set for No. 36 grenade, one No. 80 MK-1 grenade with striker, one country-made .22 pistol, one .22 pistol magazine, one 12-bore pistol, two Baofeng wireless sets with batteries, two helmets, one bulletproof (BP) jacket cover, one BP plate and one country-made 70mm mortar with bipod.
In Imphal West District, at the office of Wangoi Police Station, one 7.62mm SLR with magazine, one double-barrel breech-loaded (DBBL) gun, eight live rounds of SLR, five hand grenades, one stun shell, one runner bullet, five tear smoke shells, six iron plates, two carbine magazines, seven BP jackets, six pairs of boots, one magazine pouch, one cartridge belt, three headgear items, one camouflage cap.
At the office of Sekmai Police Station, one carbine along with one magazine.
In Jiribam District, at the office of the Officer-in-Charge, Jiribam Police Station five country-made SBBL guns, one DBBL magnum gun, 27 cartridges of 12-bore ammunition, 16 rounds of 7.62 x 51mm ammunition, 15 rounds of 7.62 x 39mm ammunition, two rounds of 5.56mm ammunition, one AK-47 magazine, one SLR magazine.
The voluntary surrender of these weapons and ammunition reflects a step toward restoring peace and stability in the region. Authorities have appreciated the public’s cooperation and continue to encourage further participation in such efforts.
