Tripura Government to Introduce New Schemes, Increase Budget for 2025-26: Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy

Agartala, March 06, 2025: The Tripura government is set to introduce new schemes and increase budgetary allocations for the 2025-26 financial year, which will commence on March 21, Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy announced on Wednesday.

Speaking after a series of pre-budget meetings with cabinet ministers, secretaries, and department directors, Singha Roy emphasized the government’s commitment to expanding welfare initiatives and boosting infrastructure development.

“This will be our third budget, and since forming the government in 2018, we have consistently increased budget figures each year. This year will be no different. We will focus on provisions for lower-income groups, farmers, SC/ST communities, and students. Our initiative of providing mobile phones to students will continue, and we plan to expand the distribution of scooties for girl students,” he stated.

The Finance Minister also highlighted the government’s emphasis on capital expenditure and infrastructure development. “We have already crossed Rs 6,000 crore in capital spending, and we expect further increases. Key sectors such as health, road connectivity, tourism, and education will see significant investments. Additionally, we are planning new initiatives for the IT sector,” he added.

The announcement comes after the Tripura government presented a tax-free budget of Rs 27,804.67 crore for the 2024-25 fiscal year, with a deficit of Rs 410.69 crore. The upcoming budget session is scheduled to begin on March 21, following the central government’s budget announcement, to align state schemes accordingly.
