Aizawl, Mar 10: Urban Development & Poverty Alleviation (UD&PA) Minister K Sapdanga inaugurated the ‘Sanjha Utsav – Festival of Togetherness’ at Aijal Club Park in Aizawl. Organized by the UD&PA Department, the event aims to support Self-Help Groups (SHGs) in Mizoram by promoting economic opportunities and self-sustainability.
Addressing the gathering, Sapdanga emphasized the role of SHGs in economic growth and urged members to take the lead in reducing single-use plastic and promoting eco-friendly practices.
According to official data, Mizoram has 1,520 active SHGs under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Urban Livelihood Mission (DAY-NULM) since 2014-15. So far, 10,733 individuals have received certified training, with 5,158 already employed. The state has also received the SPARK Award for its achievements under the program in 2021-22 and 2022-23.
The SHG Mela, scheduled from March 10 to 14, features 27 stalls displaying SHG products and seven food stalls, providing a platform for local entrepreneurs. The event highlights Mizoram’s focus on poverty alleviation and sustainable urban development.
