Manipur Forest Department Marks International Day Of Forests With Youth Rally

The Manipur Forest Department, in collaboration with local schools and environmental organizations, organized a school rally today to commemorate the International Day of Forests. The event aimed to raise awareness about the vital role forests play in sustaining life and to encourage youth participation in conservation efforts.

Hundreds of enthusiastic students from various schools across Imphal took part in the rally, holding placards and banners with messages like “Save Forests, Save Future” and “Forests: Our Earth’s Lungs.” The procession started at Kangla Fort, passed through key city locations, and concluded at Palace Compound, where a closing ceremony was held.

Speaking at the event, Anurag Bajpai, PCCF & HoFF, and Additional Chief Secretary (Textiles, Commerce & Industries, and TA & Hills), Government of Manipur, stressed the urgent need for forest conservation to combat climate change and maintain ecological balance. He highlighted the responsibility to protect and restore forests for future generations, emphasizing the importance of involving youth in conservation efforts.

Other senior officials present included RK Amarjit Singh, Conservator (Central Circle), Sanajaoba Khuraijam, Conservator (Southern Circle), Rajkumar Mayanglambam, Deputy Commissioner (Imphal West), Wungrin Maulie, DFO (Soil & Moisture Conservation Division), and Y. Kunje Singh, DFO (Social Forestry). Each underlined different aspects of forest conservation, from community involvement to ongoing afforestation, sustainable forest management, and wildlife protection initiatives.

The Manipur Forest Department has been implementing various conservation projects, such as mass afforestation drives, community-based forest management programs, and wildlife protection campaigns to safeguard the state’s rich biodiversity. Similar awareness activities are planned across different districts to spread the message of forest conservation.

The International Day of Forests, observed globally on March 21, highlights the indispensable role forests play in sustaining life. Through today’s rally, the Manipur Forest Department successfully engaged students, educators, and the public in meaningful discussions about sustainable forest management and remains committed to preserving the state’s natural heritage for future generations.
