A team of senior Supreme Court judges, led by Justice Bhushan R Gavai, Executive Chairman of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), will visit relief camps in Manipur on March 22 to assess the condition of internally displaced persons (IDPs) and enhance legal and humanitarian aid efforts.
The delegation will include Justices Surya Kant, Vikram Nath, MM Sundresh, KV Viswanathan, and N Kotiswar Singh. They will engage with displaced communities and oversee initiatives to expand legal aid and medical assistance. According to a statement from NALSA, the visit is part of the 12-year celebration of the Manipur High Court.
During the visit, Justice Gavai will virtually inaugurate Legal Services and Medical Camps across all districts of Manipur. New legal aid clinics will be launched in Imphal East, Imphal West, and Ukhrul, while essential relief materials will be distributed to displaced individuals.
The initiative aims to connect IDPs with government welfare schemes, ensuring access to healthcare, pensions, employment programs, and identity document reconstruction. So far, NALSA, in collaboration with the Manipur State Legal Services Authority (MASLSA), has set up 273 Special Legal Aid Clinics at relief camps to provide legal assistance.
