Itanagar, Mar 20: Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein on Wednesday inaugurated the 1894 Mirem Batum Lingkang War Memorial at Adi Pasi in Upper Siang district. The memorial honors the bravery of Adi warriors from Pasi Village, who defended their homeland against a British punitive expedition during the 3rd Anglo-Abor War in 1893-94.
Speaking at the event, Mein described the inauguration as a historic and emotional moment, emphasizing the importance of remembering the sacrifices made by the forefathers. He praised the local community for constructing the memorial through their contributions and called it an inspiration for others.
Mein highlighted the need to preserve Arunachal Pradesh’s cultural heritage and indigenous traditions while ensuring sustainable development. He urged the people to take pride in their heritage and safeguard their customs for future generations.
Addressing regional development, Mein discussed the Upper Siang Multipurpose Project and the potential impact of China’s proposed 60,000 MW dam on the Yarlung Tsangpo River. He encouraged public engagement in discussions on the project’s significance and benefits.
The event was attended by Minister for PR, RD, Transport & Cooperation Ojing Tasing, Adi Baane Kebang President Tadum Libang, ABK Secretary General Vijay Taram, MLAs Oni Panyang and Puinnyo Apum, along with senior officials, local leaders, and community members.
