Aizawl, Mar 26: Chief Minister Pu Lalduhoma officially inaugurated the newly constructed Mizoram Badminton Centre at Zuangtui, Aizawl, on Tuesday, marking a significant milestone in the state’s sports infrastructure.
During his speech, Pu Lalduhoma highlighted Mizoram’s natural talent for badminton and expressed confidence in the state’s ability to produce world-class players. He noted that Mizo athletes have shown exceptional promise in national age-level competitions and have a strong chance of competing at the global level. He also emphasized the government’s commitment to enhancing sports infrastructure and nurturing young talent, with an eye on the 2036 Olympics, for which India is preparing.
The Chief Minister also thanked his predecessors, including former Chief Minister Pu Zoramthanga and Deputy Chief Minister Pu Tawnluia, for laying the foundation for the initiative. The establishment of the Centre aligns with Mizoram’s Vision 2036 plan, which aims to develop young athletes who can represent India on the world stage.
In his address, UD & PA Minister Pu K. Sapdanga expressed gratitude to the Mizoram Badminton Association and the previous government for their contributions to the Centre’s development. He emphasized that the Centre would serve as a platform for nurturing future champions and bring honor to both Mizoram and India.
Sports & Youth Services Minister Pu Lalnghinglova Hmar also spoke at the event, expressing optimism that the state will continue to excel in sports with such top-tier facilities. He reaffirmed that the Mizoram Badminton Association would manage the Centre and ensure that it becomes a hub for future Olympians in line with Vision 2036.
The Centre, built under the Aizawl Smart City Limited project, cost Rs. 18.21 crore and took nearly three years to complete. It includes state-of-the-art amenities, including six standard-size badminton courts, dormitories for male and female players, a gymnasium, medical and coach rooms, and spectator facilities. The Centre also boasts a 2 lakh-liter water storage capacity and is designed with pile foundations for enhanced safety and stability.
The inauguration ceremony was chaired by Pu Lalmalsawma Pachuau, Secretary, UD & PA, with the prayer of dedication offered by Rev. R. Lalhmangaiha, and the technical report presented by Pu C.C. Lalchhuangkima, CEO of ASCL.
